Church Readers proclaim the Word of God at mass. A reader will read out loud the First Gospel Reading (usually from one of the prophets), the Psalm followed by the second reading and the then Gospel Acclamation before the Gospel.
The proclamation of the Word of God is an important part of the Eucharist. The Church teaches that when the Word is proclaimed, God is speaking to his people. It is important, therefore, that Church Readers are trained and prepare for reading each week.
