Today is the Fourth Annual World Day of the Poor

St. Simon Stock Catholic Church, Ashford South

Sunday is the Fourth Annual World Day of the Poor

The Annual World Day of the Poor was instituted in 2016 by Pope Francis, at the end of the Year of Mercy. It invites Christians to see people who are poor not simply as recipients of charity, but as human beings who we have an on-going relationship with, and as people who have a particular insight into the Gospel. This year’s theme “Stretch forth your hand to the poor” is a summons to responsibility and commitment as men and women who are part of our one human family. Pope Francis’ message for this World Day of the Poor can be found on the Vatican website http://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/messages/poveri.index.html

Priest Training Fund – Second Collection 2020

St. Simon Stock Catholic Church, Ashford South

Priest Training Fund

Known as the Ecclesiastical Education Fund, pays for men studying for the Priesthood and Diaconate here in Southwark. It costs £30,000 a year, for six years, to sponsor each seminarian, so your generous support in this appeal makes a real difference in our ability to fund and support men saying ‘Yes’ to the vocation of Priesthood. We currently have 8 men in formation for the Priesthood for Southwark. You can donate online via www.rcsouthwark.co.uk/donate.html (select Priest Training Fund) or by scanning the QR code by clicking on the poster below and printing a copy. Poster is in the Church Foyer window.
Please be generous and keep our seminarians, and priests, in your prayers. Thank you.

Today Is Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday

Today is Remembrance Sunday! Although we cannot gather today in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, let us pray for all those who have died in armed conflict, and that there might be peace throughout the world.

There will be no blessing of graves today because of the new restrictions. However, you are encourage to go to the cemeteries and pray privately to pray for the souls in purgatory. The plenary indulgence for those who visit a cemetery and pray for the departed, which is normally applicable between 1 to 8 November, will now apply to the entire month of November and need not be on consecutive days.
